Sibylle Fendt
photographer

Sibylle Fendt was born in Karlsruhe in 1974. She earned her diploma in Photography at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and has lived in Berlin since 2002. Her final project, “Uneins”, was distinguished with many national and international awards. In 2003, she participated in the World Press Photo Masterclass. From 2003-2005, Fendt was a visiting student in the Wolfgang Tillmans class at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Frankfurt. Since 2010, she has been a member of the Ostkreuz photographers’ agency. She worked for many years as a photographer in the editorial offices of magazines before shifting her focus to teaching. She works continuously on long-term freelance projects that are shown internationally. Her preferred topics are social marginalisation, the crises that arise from mental and social problems as well as illness, and simply “normal” life. The portrait takes centre stage in her work. In 2019/2020, Fendt was an interim professor at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Her teaching concentrates on portrait photography, new photographic approaches between documentation and staging, as well as socio-documentary photography.
