The Cameo Kollektiv is an association of creative minds and other active participants with or without a flight or migration background. The group sees itself as think tank and creative laboratory that employs innovative methods as a means to promote social diversity. In 2014, the Cameo Kollektiv was initiated as a loose association of photography and design students. The kick-off was a photography project that actively involved the subjects in the creative process. The collective, transcultural and interdisciplinary potential of the 40 association members has continued to grow since the project ‘Cameo Magazin – Ankommen’ was first published in 2016. This project, an interactive magazine, continues to characterise the Cameo Kollektiv. Altogether, more than 70 people from more than 26 different backgrounds worked on the project. At that time, the phrase ‘UPGRATION – Upgrade via Migration’ was coined, which not only characterises the association’s attitude just as much today as it did then, but also describes the motivation of its members. Working from this fundamental understanding, the Cameo Kollektiv develops sociocultural projects, workshops, campaigns and media projects aimed at cultural and political education.
